BTG Global Advisory partners write about the opportunities in mining

As rare earth and precious metals and minerals become increasingly important to developing industries across the globe leaders from across the BTG Global Advisory network have written an article for Mining Magazine, discussing major M&A opportunities for investors.

Sannan Khan, Partner at BTG, Piers Marsden, Managing Partner at Matuson and Associates, and Melissa Lau, Director at Rodgers Reidy collaborated to highlight the global outlook, including these opportunities, for mining companies in the current climate.

In this article they note that the rising price of metal is at odds with the willingness to invest in production at this moment in time. Chiefly amongst the reasons for hesitation were geopolitical instability, supply chain disruption, and the cost or availability of transporting materials.

However, Sannan, Piers and Melissa emphasise that this also creates opportunities for those that can take advice on how to work around these issues:

“Where there is distress there is always opportunity because demand remains strong. It may be that all of these challenges just need a breaking and resetting of supply chains, transport routes and customer bases.”

Using the BTG Global Advisory network clients have been supported through a range of measures to restructure or invest in and restart mining production. 

As mentioned in the article for Mining Magazine some of the measures we are currently looking at for clients are negotiating longer-term transport and supply prices, understanding the opportunities in distressed M&A and investigating onshoring options, such as new ventures in Cornish mining.

In their final thoughts, Sannan, Piers and Melissa reiterate that there is major opportunity in mining, but good advice is essential to taking full advantage.

“There will always be demand in this area, but where uncertainty becomes the certainty then capital, negotiating position and experience should be spent on closing the gap, reducing the risk and creating certainty to result in success.”
