Learn more about Craig Povey
Craig is the Managing Partner for the West Midlands region, covering Birmingham, Dudley, Telford and Shrewsbury, Stoke and Cheltenham, although primarily based in our Birmingham office. He specialises in corporate insolvency and business turnaround, with extensive experience securing profitable exits and delivering restructuring solutions across a wide range of sectors. He also continues to undertake a number of bankruptcy and IVA appointments.
Craig has over 15 years of experience advising on corporate insolvency procedures, including acting as liquidator, administrator, and supervisor in Company Voluntary Arrangements and being instrumental to several trading turnarounds. He is also experienced in investigations and asset recovery, with specialist knowledge in supporting charities and not-for-profit organisations by providing practical solutions that balance regulatory requirements with stakeholder interests.
He has experience acting on behalf of AIM-listed clients and on public interest cases. Notable cases include acting as administrator of a leading UK film and TV production studio, administrator of a programmatic marketing platform, and liquidator of an established Midlands charity delivering respite care.
Craig acted as administrator of a UK company enabling consumers to partially own solar and wind farms through a cooperative model. He was also appointed administrator of a residential park home with 92 pitches, which exited administration via rescuing the company as a going concern and returning it to the previous owners after arduous and vexatious court action.
Craig also recently dealt with an electrically assisted vehicle manufacturer, a well-known Coventry engineering business, a highly specialised motor tech engineering business, and a well-known East Midlands waste management and construction company on behalf of secured creditors. He also dealt with an unregulated law firm, and secured a CVA for an international conferencing and exhibition company.
Prior to joining BTG, Craig gained experience in both professional practice and senior industry roles, including as chief turnaround officer for an AIM-listed company and as senior director of the UK subsidiary of a Japanese-listed plc. Craig trained at a Big Four professional services firm.
He is a member of R3’s (Association of Business Recovery Professionals) forum, he is a licensed Insolvency Practitioner and a Chartered Accountant.

US tariff reset erodes UK’s advantage as exporters prepare for the next regime
The Trump administration has replaced the reciprocal tariffs regime that was struck down by the Supreme Court with a non-discriminatory tariff tool, shifting tariff risk to a more uncertain carve-out-driven framework. In this new regime, the UK’s prior relative advantage for non-exempt goods is no longer assured and outcomes depend on sector carve-outs, product mix and enforcement.
