Robert is a Partner based in our Exeter office, servicing clients nationwide and internationally. He specialises in high-level financial advisory, deal advisory, corporate insolvency and business restructuring, with extensive experience providing board advisory support, M&A corporate finance and holding non-executive director (NED) and chief restructuring officer (CRO) roles. He is an English-qualified corporate, finance and restructuring lawyer, and a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales.
Robert has over 20 years of experience providing specialist advice to stakeholders across the public, technology, oil and gas, logistics, education, retail, real estate, construction, care, brokerage and financial services sectors.
His areas of expertise include risk management, legal and regulatory oversight, stakeholder negotiation, company management, operational improvement, working capital and cash management, acquisitions, disposals and providing expert, commercial and project management support.
Recent cases include initiating the sale of a diversified media group to a family office, the sale of a leading independent book retailer to Waterstones, and the sale of a market-leading rail services business to the William Cook Group. He handled refinancing for Pearl & Dean, a British cinema advertising company, and conducted financial due diligence on the acquisition of Strathmore Water.
He handled the sale process for a registered UK charity, which involved an options review for the board as external investment was required, commencing an accelerated sale. This culminated in the sale of most of the business and assets, protecting over 800 jobs and 80 service lines.
He is a former board member of the Institute for Turnaround West and Wales.
Prior to joining BTG, Robert gained high level professional advisory experience, training and working at a magic circle law firm, before joining a Big Four bank and then founding his own restructuring and turnaround practice.
