Thomas is Regional Managing Partner for Scotland and Northern Ireland, based in our Glasgow office. He specialises in corporate insolvency, personal insolvency and business restructuring. He also leads the BTG offices across Scotland and Northern Ireland. His sector expertise spans across hospitality, construction, alcohol businesses, oil and gas, retail, charities, haulage, manufacturing, engineering and property.
Thomas has over 21 years of experience supporting SMEs, medium to large businesses, and individuals in financial distress. He undertakes most of the corporate insolvency engagements in Scotland (administrations and liquidations), including cross-border insolvency assignments across England and Scotland. He regularly engages with HMRC, accountants, secured lenders, invoice discounters, solicitors and property agents, both in director-led and creditor-led scenarios.
Notable case experience includes supervising the trading of a historic Scottish hotel during administration, which was sold in a £3 million deal, saving all 43 jobs. Other case examples include supervising the pre-pack administration of a whisky distillery, successfully securing a buyer and saving all 42 jobs in an £8.3 million deal.
He also has vast experience providing insolvency/restructuring advice to retail businesses, construction companies, manufacturing companies, engineering companies, oil and gas personal service companies, and charitable organisations, to name a few. All required a strategy/business review and insolvency or restructuring advice as a contingency plan.
Thomas has also engaged in UK bank secondments in property and trading business teams across Scottish and English banks. He is an ICAS-qualified Chartered Accountant.
